The company secretarial remit combines two main elements of workload; the annual cycle and special projects. The scope of the role is also fundamentally affected by the complexity of the organisation and whether or not it is listed, and, particularly in current market conditions, if the function is vulnerable to corporate change.
We have seen what we consider to be a strong, positive trend of increasing numbers of company secretaries interested in – or indeed focussing solely upon – interim assignments and employers keen to manage short-term workload ‘bulges’ or one-off projects by using interims. It’s cost-effective for companies with budgetary constraints or a freeze on permanent hires, and many company secretaries relish not only the challenge of acquiring new skills and experience in different working environments, but also the flexibility and lifestyle balance that the interim market offers.
But what do you think?
